Students of IIIT Kota participated in Gusto 2017 held at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Jabalpur during January 27-29, 2017.

68th Republic Day Celebration
IIIT Kota celebrated 68th Republic Day with mentor institute MNIT Jaipur. Director Prof. Uday Kumar Yaragatti addressed students, faculty and staff. He motivated students to work for excellence and towards the betterment of the country.
Visitors from France
Dr. Mohamed Mosbah and Dr. Akka Zemari, Professors from University of Bordeaux visited IIIT Kota in January 2017. Dr. Mosbah provided insight into admissions at French University. Dr. Akka Zemari delivered a lecture on Machine Learning algorithms.
IIIT Kota stands 3rd overall at Inter IIIT Sports Meet – 2016
Students of IIIT Kota participated at Inter IIIT Sports Meet – 2016 held at IIITDM Kancheepuram during Dec 13-15, 2016.
Team IIIT Kota ranked 3rd overall and institute is proud of this achievement.

GIAN Course: The Science of Remulation for Executable Biology (Dec 12-16, 2016)
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MNIT Jaipur organized an International Short Course on “The Science of Remulation for Executable Biology” under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network), an initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India. This course was organized during December 16-20, 2016. This program was also partially supported by IIIT Kota (currently mentored by MNIT Jaipur).
Dr. Parthasarathi Roop, Professor at Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Auckland, New Zealand was the main resource person of the course along with Dr. Avinash Malik and Dr. Sidharta Andalam from the same research group.
Dr. Partha and his team illustrated remulation by developing executable, real-time models of the cardiac conduction system of the human heart and illustrate the developed model (Heart on Chip) in hardware as a remulated system for the validation of pacemakers.
This course enlightened participants with a range of topics including basic concepts in Real-Time Systems, background on Embedded Systems, Cyber Physical Systems, Formal Methods, Synchronous Approach, Esterel language by examples, Uppaal Model Checker, Pacemaker and Timed Automata, Hybrid Automata, Models of the cardiac conduction system and Remulation-based verification of pacemakers.
GIAN Course: Mobile Systems Security (Nov 21-25, 2016)
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MNIT Jaipur organized an International Short Course on Mobile Systems Security under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network), an initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India. This course was organized during November 21 – 25, 2016. This program was also partially supported by IIIT Kota (currently mentored by MNIT Jaipur).
Prof. N. Asokan, Professor at Aalto University Helsinki was the main resource person of the course. His primary research interest has been in applying cryptographic techniques to design secure protocols for distributed systems. Recently, he has also been investigating the use of Trusted Computing technologies for securing end nodes, and ways to make secure systems usable, especially in the context of mobile devices. Asokan and his group pioneered early academic research involving trusted execution environments (TEEs) in mobile devices with their work on On-board Credentials. He is a co-inventor of 41 granted patents and in 2013, he was selected for a Google Faculty Research Award for his work on contextual security.
Rashtriya Ekta Saptah – Oct 31 to Nov 5, 2016
Nation saluted Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in a nation-wide campaign during Rastriya Ekta Saptah observed from Oct 31 to Nov 5.
As part of the nation-wide campaign, IIIT Kota conducted Run for Unity (from MNIT Prabha Bhavan to Jawahar Circle) on November 5, 2016 from 6 am onwards. Total 56 students and faculty members participated in the “Run for Unity” event.
The institute also organized a Cultural Program to remember sacrifices of our Freedom Fighters at Mini Auditorium, Prabha Bhavan, on Nov 4, 2016.
GIAN Course: Internet: Security And Privacy Challenges (Oct 24-28, 2016)
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MNIT Jaipur organized an International Short Course on Internet Security and Privacy Challenges under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network), an initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India. This course was organized during October 24 – 28, 2016. This program was also partially supported by IIIT Kota (currently mentored by MNIT Jaipur).
Dr. Mauro Conti, Associate Professor, University of Padua, founder of the SPRITZ (Security and Privacy Research Group) and EU Marie Curie Fellow at Department of Mathematics, University of Padua, was the resource person for the program. This course aimed at security and privacy challenges in the Internet. Dr. Conti presented research outcomes of SPRITZ group in this direction.
GIAN Course: Managing The Complexity, Security, And Safety Of Large Software (Sept 12-16, 2016)
Department of Computer Science & Engineering at MNIT organized an International Short Course on Managing the Complexity, Security and Safety of Large Software under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network), an initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India. This course was organized during September 12-16, 2016. This program was also partially supported by IIIT Kota (currently mentored by MNIT Jaipur).
Professor Suraj Kothari from Iow State University, USA and Ben Holland were main resource persons for this course. This course provided a solid foundation on fundamentals of software that are applicable across all programming languages. With examples of real-world software problems, course elaborated how this fundamental knowledge can be applied using HLA (human-in-loop automation) to cope with software complexity, safety and security. Both visiting faculty gave a thoughtful talk on “Euler and 336 Million Dollars Software Patent”.
70th Independence Day Celebration
IIIT Kota celebrated 70th Independence Day with mentor institute MNIT Jaipur. IIIT Kota celebrated this day with kids of Government School in MNIT Campus and distributed sweets.
IIITK New Students’ Foundation Program (Orientation) Aug 1-6, 2016
IIIT Kota welcomed all new students admitted to session 2016-17, during one week long Foundation Program (orientation) from August 1-to-6, 2016 at MNIT Jaipur campus.
The programme aimed to acclimatize and initiate new entrants in the new system. During the inaugural function, Prof. A. P. Singh, in his keynote address, highlighted the career opportunities for IT students while Prof. A. B. Gupta, Director MNIT and IIIT Kota, stressed on the need for students to aspire high.
The Foundation Programme included several specialized workshops, invited lectures, and special sessions for students. Workshops of Photography, Vocal Music, and Cookery were organised. Experts delivered lectures on topics like Mind-body Interface, and Building Self-confidence and a Positive Attitude. Collaborative games, competitions, group activities, and presentations by students were part of the schedule. The programme concluded with the screening of an English movie and a cleanliness drive of the MNIT campus by the new students.
The Foundation Programme was conducted by Prof. K.C. Jain, Mrs. Nanny Tripathi and Dr. Preeti Bhatt under the direction of Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Coordinator, IIIT Kota.
GIAN Course: Recent Advances In VLSI Testing And Design-For-Test (July 25-29, 2016)
Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering at MNIT jointly organized an International Short Course on Recent Advances in VLSI Testing and Design-for-Test: Timing Tests, Test Compression, Cell Aware Test and Adaptive under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network), an initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India. This course was organized during July 25-29, 2016. This program was also partially supported by IIIT Kota (currently mentored by MNIT Jaipur).
Professor Adit Singh, James B. Davis Professor at Auburn University since 2002 and leading expert on VLSI testing and national experts from IIT were the resource persons for the programme.
This course was aimed at thorough understanding and effectiveness of four new DFT technologies – (1) timing and delay testing, (2) test compression, (3) adaptive testing and (4) cell aware test. Talks and presentations relied extensively on Industry data on processor, and smart phone SoC parts.
Visit of GEWIS study tour 2016 from TU/e Netherlands
IIIT Kota and Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MNIT Jaipur hosted GEWIS study tour group of 26 students and 2 faculty members from Eindhoven University, Netherlands (TU/e https://www.tue.nl/en/) on July 14, 2016.
Dr. Vijay Laxmi and Rajendra Kumar Solanki interacted with the group and answered questions about institute, academics and admissions (both MNIT and IIITK). Amit Kumar demonstrated stick for blind people developed in summer project by 2 visiting students from Thapar University.
Visit to GirnarSoft (cardekho.com) was memorable. It was well planned and GirnarSoft team gave us insight into Girnar, CarDekho, CollegeDekho, etc. and shared a lot of things to take back with us.
On July 15, the group visited Manipal University Jaipur and liked students hostels and institute landmarks. They visited Pratham Software (PSI) and StartUp Oasis incubation center promoted by CIIE and IIM Ahmedabad. Group loved the idea of this type of incubation center where lots of ideas are flourishing.
GIAN Course: Advanced Systems Security: Attacks And Defenses (July 4-10, 2016)
Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MNIT Jaipur organized an International Short Course on “Advanced Systems Security: Attacks and Defenses” under GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Network), an initiative of MHRD, Govt. of India. This course was organized during July 4 to July 10, 2016. This program was also partially supported by IIIT Kota.
Dr. Herbert Bos, Professor at Vrije Universiteit (VJ University), Amsterdam and national experts from NITs were the resource persons for the programme.
Dr. Herbert Bos discussed advanced security threats, countermeasures and recent research in these areas. This course was useful for academicians, research scholars and security experts working in/aspiring to work in information security related areas.
Visit to CCoE by IIIT Kota students
A team of 20 students and 3 faculty members from IIIT Kota visited, Cairn Centre of Excellence (CCoE), Jodhpur on June 26, 2016. This was a part of their exposure visit, wherein the team was briefed about the vision of CCoE, its objectives, the entire mechanism from students enrollment, counselling, assessments, training and placements.
During the campus tour they were introduced to the best in class labs (in CCoE the equipment’s are sourced from Finland, Germany, etc.) and explained in details the function of each equipment. The interactive session among students and faculty helped to understand the key leveraging points that going forward can be looked into for increased student exposure.
Workshop on IIIT Kota B. Tech. Curriculum
IIIT Kota organized a workshop on B. Tech. Curriculum wherein faculty members proposed a new scheme for ECE and CSE with senate members. Dr. Vinay Mittal from IIIT Sri City shared his insights on Academia and curriculum. He suggested some fine points on proposed scheme for ECE and CSE.

Workshop on Fractal Academics
IIIT Kota organized a workshop on Fractal Academics – a concept championed by IIT Hyderabad. Prof. Uday Desai, Director of IIT Hyderabad and a very passionate speaker himself and his team (Prof. Sumohana and Prof G V V Sharma) shared their experience on Fractal Academics in past three years wherein students can opt for 0.5/1/1.5 /2/2.5 credit courses ranging from duration of a few weeks to a few months instead of semester long courses.
This seems an interesting academic structure wherein a lot of flexibility is offered to the students, and faculty for offering rich and interdisciplinary courses. We are going to adopt this concept in part and learn along the journey.

Prof. Deepak Phatak’s visit
As part of institute colloquium, Prof. Deepak B. Phatak from IIT Bombay delivered a lecture on “Web revolution in education – an opportunity for constructive disruption” and enlightened students and faculty with his insight on “Building India where dreams come true”. It is a great experience and inspirational journey to be among his audience.
During his one day visit to MNIT Jaipur, he also spoke on “Open Educational Resources” as part of ICT Academy workshop.

Android Fast Track Lab
Forsk Technologies conducted Android Fast Track Lab from March 30 to April 06, 2016. 65 students from IIIT Kota and MNIT Jaipur were benefited from this fast track lab.
Students learnt installation of required toolkit, UI design of apps, fetching data across screens, Activity life cycle, JSON parser, supporting devices of multiple sizes and density, permissions, etc.

CAIRN CoE Visit
We had a short visit to CAIRN Center of Excellence (CCoE), Jodhpur on April 9, 2016. It is situated on NH-65, on Nagor Road and 30 kms from Jodhpur city railway station. CCoE campus is exactly opposite to IIT Jodhpur campus.
CCoE Jodhpur conducts vocational courses in 5 areas (automobile, welding, wind energy, solar energy and retail management) for duration ranging from 3 weeks to 3 months. Institute is benefited from TUV faculty and students are generally 10th and 12th passed outs. CCoE has state-of-the-art labs in automobile and welding. CCoE is able to place 65% of these students. Approximately 70% students are funded and 30% are self-financed. CCoE is an example of how organizations can contribute to skilled manpower. They have student hostels and mess facility within the campus.

MoU between CCoE, TuV and MNIT/IIITK
Two tripartite MoUs were signed. The first one was signed between TuV, CAIRN Industries (Vedanta Group Company) and MNIT and the second one was signed between CAIRN Industries (Vedanta Group Company), TuV and IIIT Kota. The MoU was signed by Prof. I.K.Bhat, Director, MNIT Jaipur and IIIT Kota with representatives of TuV and CAIRN Industries on February 22, 2016 at MNIT Jaipur in a simple ceremony.
The scope of the MoU will cover the faculty exchange and guest lectures, site visits to CCoE and interactions with CCoE trainees by IIITK and MNIT students. Also, MoU shall provide scope for Curriculum review as mutually agreed between the parties. The partners shall provide advisory support or knowledge sharing among each other. The MoU shall provide opportunities to CCoE students visiting IIITK and MNIT campus. Partners shall collaborate for conferences and seminars related to skills and any other mutual area of interest.
